Creating Kindness Blog Hop – Fancy Folds

Welcome…I’m so glad you’re here!  And guess what?  I get to be the guest designer for this month’s Creating Kindness (around the world) Design Team Blog Hop!  The Creating Kindness Team is an incredible group of crafters from around the world working (and hopping) together to inspire us to kindness through card making and paper crafting.  Yep….it’s all pretty amazing…but that’s not all!  There’s a video hop, too!  Check out the link list at the end of the post to check out the video fun!

The month’s Creating Kindness theme is Fancy Folds…and I’m sharing my favorite fold.  It’s actually a simple, standard sized card fold out…but what makes it fancy is that I can use it vertically or horizontally…and I can hold it shut so many different ways. I’ve also added a gift card element…and IMHO that always ups the fancy factor.  Gift cards are not my favorite gift to give…but if it’s what someone wants I’m good with that.  I do try to make the presentation special, though…and I have several gift card packaging options to share in my Handmade Holidays series, including this one!

And now…on to the project!

I used my Accucut A2 Foldout 4 die…one of my absolute favorites! I love that it not only cuts the card base…but it also cuts all the mats.

I cut the card base in kraft cardstock…the outside mats in red polka dots…and the inside mat in white.  I attached the outside mats to the card base…created the gift card element on the inside mat with the tabs die in the Papertrey Ink Big Apple Die…and placed it inside the card.

This die is the perfect way to anchor a gift card to any card, tag, bag or box…one of those little dies that’s a true gem!  And BTW…since I finished this card my Gift Card Slot die arrived from The Stamp Market…and it would also be a perfect way to add a gift card card to just about any project…another one of those true gems!

One way to keep a foldout card closed is by tucking it behind a fun focal element…and I thought it would be perfect for this card.  So…I grabbed the Holiday Characters by Julie Ebersole, Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps, Holiday Characters coordinating dies, and Retro Holiday Greetings…and got to work.   I heat embossed the trees and holly with white powder green cardstock…die cut them using the coordinating dies…and added the red enamels.  I die cut the label in black…added a white embossed sentiment…and placed the label on the card base.  I added the Holiday Character die cuts…a bit of a white doily…and some button twine.  The  card stays closed  perfectly under the label element.
